"Story of the Nativity" Auditions

We'd love for you to perform with us!

Please read all of these details and instructions.

What is a "Story of the Nativity" Concert?

This year as part of the Festival of the Nativity, we are putting on two "Story of the Nativity" concerts. These will present the story of the birth of Jesus through music, narration, and acting.

There are many traditional and other less well-known Christmas songs that tell the story of the Nativity. There are many delightful arrangements of these songs for both singers and instrumentalists. We are looking to create a unique concert based on YOUR proposed musical selections. We are looking for between 12 and 18 musical selections and performers to weave into a narration of the Nativity story.

Based on your proposals and auditions, we will select musical numbers, write a narration script, add actors/actresses to play the roles of Joseph, Mary, shepherds, angels, etc., and put on fully produced concerts on Monday, December 3 and Sunday, December 9 as part of the Festival of the Nativity held at the Bellevue South Stake Center.

Around 12,000 people visit the Festival of the Nativity each year. We will be heavily advertising these concerts and inviting the public to attend.

How can I be involved?

Do you have a favorite Christmas song you want to perform? A favorite arrangement you want to sing or play? A small group of performers with a great Christmas musical number? We want to hear what you propose.

You may not be a performer. Do you want to play a non-speaking/non-singing role? I.e., as Joseph, Mary, a shepherd, an angel, etc.?

You do not have to be a member of the Bellevue South Stake in order to audition.

If you want to perform music:

We need you to submit your contact information and either an audio file or a YouTube video of you performing your musical selection. We prefer YouTube videos if possible. Use the form below to audition.

Submissions are due by noon on November 10.

If you want to perform a non-singing/non-speaking part:

We need you to submit your contact information, tell us what role you'd like to play, and submit a current picture of yourself. Use the form below to audition.

Submissions are due by noon on November 10.

How will performers, music, and actors be selected?

The selection process is entirely subjective. There are a number of factors that will go into the selection process, including the number of submissions, the nature of the submissions, how different submissions might work together (or not), etc. Not everyone who submits music or is available for non-singing/non-speaking roles will be selected this year. And that's okay. We are grateful for everyone who submits material for consideration.

If I am selected, what commitment am I making?

  • If you are selected, you must be available to perform on Monday, December 3 AND Sunday, December 9. On both days, you will need to be available at the stake center from 6 pm until 9 pm.
  • You must be available for dress rehearsals on Wednesday, November 28 and Thursday, November 29. Dress rehearsals will be held at the stake center at 7 pm and may go late.
